The Process

Application Submission.

All application packets must be complete and submitted to the DuPage County Merit Commission at 421 N County Farm Rd, Suite L-512, Wheaton, IL 60187. A copy of the P.O.W.E.R. card needs to accompany the application. An email will be sent with confirmation of registration and information regarding completing the online examination for new recruits.

Written exam for new recruits.

Written exam will be online for new recruits. Each bureau will have separate written testing dates. You must successfully pass the written exam to continue in the testing process. Lateral transfers will not need to take the written exam.

Oral Interview

Upon notification from the Merit Commission of successful completion of the written exam, you will set up an oral interview with the Merit Commission.

Background checks.

All candidates must pass background investigations. Background checks are conducted by an outside agency as well as in house.

Certification meeting

After completing a written exam, oral interview, and background investigations, the Merit Commission will hold a certification meeting with you. If you have passed all previous phases and complete this meeting, you may be recommended to be placed on an eligibility list.

Physical, psychological, and final review

Upon placement on the eligibility list, you will be notified by the Sheriff’s Office to schedule a physical exam and a psychological interview. Once you have successfully completed these exams, your application packet will be presented for a final review. If selected, you will be contacted with an offer of employment.
